Celebrities Who Have Taken Ozempic (Before and After): Oprah Winfrey, James Corden, and Others
Many well-known celebrities are speculated to have used weight-loss medications — but who has openly addressed it?
One word has dominated conversations over the past year. It’s not 'brat', 'demure', or even 'brain rot': it’s Ozempic.
The medication — which, similar to competing brands Wegovy and Mounjaro, is approved for treating type 2 diabetes — has gained widespread attention for its role in assisting people (including many celebrities) with weight loss.
Ozempic and its competitors imitate a hormone that controls hunger, fooling the brain into thinking the body is satisfied. This results in reduced food consumption and weight loss.
Many celebrities, from Hollywood to the UK, are believed to have used these injections to lose weight, with some openly talking about their use of the medication.
From Donald Trump’s close ally Elon Musk to talk-show legends, here are the celebrities who have openly talked about using weight-loss drug.
Elon Musk
The soon-to-be White House adviser shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he had used Ozempic and Mounjaro to shed pounds.
On Boxing Day, the Tesla CEO posted a photo of himself dressed as Father Christmas with the caption: “Ozempic Santa.”
In a separate post, he remarked: “Technically, Mounjaro, but that doesn’t have the same ring to it.”
Oprah Winfrey
Although talk show icon Oprah Winfrey has not revealed the specific brand she uses, she is one of the most outspoken Hollywood stars about using weight-loss medications. She credits them for helping her stop feeling "shameful" about her weight.
In an interview with People magazine last year, Winfrey shared: “I was aware of [weight-loss] medications, but felt I had to prove I could do it with willpower. I no longer feel that way.
"I realized I had been blaming myself all these years for being overweight, and I have a genetic tendency that no amount of willpower can control."
"I now use [the drug] when I feel I need it, as a tool to avoid yo-yo dieting," she added.
James Corden
Gavin and Stacey star James Corden openly talked about using Ozempic on his radio show but decided to stop after it “didn’t really work.”
He explained on Sirius XM: “I tried it for a while, and what I realized was that nothing about my eating had anything to do with being hungry.
“All it does is make you feel not hungry. But I rarely eat [just because I’m hungry].”
Amy Schumer
American actress Amy Schumer is another celebrity who tried Ozempic but stopped due to the side effects.
"I was one of those people who felt sick, I couldn’t play with my son,” she shared during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
Rebel Wilson
Australian actress Rebel Wilson has spoken about overhauling her health in the past few years, losing 80 pounds in four years.
Wilson revealed in April that she had used Ozempic to help lose weight, telling the Sunday Times: “Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good.”
The actress, who got married this year, added she no longer used the drug.
Sharon Osbourne
Throughout her time in the public eye, Sharon Osbourne has been candid about her struggles with weight.
In a guest appearance on Piers Morgan’s podcast last year, the former X Factor judge shared that she had lost 42 pounds while using Ozempic.
“I didn’t actually want to get this thin, but it just happened, and I’ll probably gain it all back soon,” she admitted.
Describing the side effects, she explained: “You don’t actually throw up, but you feel like you might.
“I spent about two or three weeks feeling nauseous the entire time. You get very thirsty and you just don’t want to eat. That’s about it.”
Stephen Fry
Stephen Fry is another celebrity who has spoken about the downsides of Ozempic.
In March, the actor and comedian revealed that he had received the injections from a doctor in the U.S. “years ago.”
Fry shared on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast that his doctor “tried me on it, and for the first week or so, I thought, 'This is astonishing. Not only do I not want to eat, I don’t want any alcohol. This is going to be brilliant.'”
“But then I started feeling sick, and I just kept feeling worse and worse,” he continued. “I was literally throwing up four or five times a day and thought, 'I can’t do this.' So, that was it.”
